NOTE FROM GENERAL SUPERINTENDENT PRESTON HEATH

Dear Messenger Subscriber,

I'm sure that you are enjoying the new format of our Messenger. As you can see we are making it more relevant to real life issues and real people that many times a subscriber may personally know. Our goal is to provide the reader with materials that they can't get from other published sources. We have changed the type of paper, number of pages, and the total approach to making the Messenger a viable publication coming into your home.

This letter is to share with you one more change that is necessary to make. Due to the cost of the above changes and the increasing cost of publishing the Messenger, we are changing the frequency of issue mailing. The Messenger will be mailed bimonthly, reducing the number of issues from 10 to 6 each year. This will allow the subscription rate to remain the same without an increased cost to our reader.

We are pleased that this will provide an improved quality of publication and more relevant articles for our readers.

Thank you for your continued interest and support of the Official PUblication of the PFWB Church.

Our new Messenger Publication has been a big hit with our subscribers. We would love to have more subscribers signing up, so please let us know if you are interested. If you aren't interested, please let us know what we could do with the Messenger to change your mind.

THE MESSENGER IS AVAILABLE ONLINE FOR PASTORS

The Messenger is now available to PFWB Ministers online. It can be accessed through the Clergy Section of the PFWB website and located in the Left side menu. To enter the Clergy section, PFWB Ministers must have their ID number and password. The ID number is the Conference License Number located on each minister’s Photo ID Card. The password can be obtained from Paula, Amy, or Danny at the Conference Resource Center or by e-mailing us. Back issues through July 2006 are posted. For now, The Messenger is best viewed with a DSL or Cable internet connection. This is due to the download time required, but the technical staff is working hard to improve the situation so that dial-up connections will experience quicker download times. The goal is to give all subscribers, clergy and laity, access to the publication online. The technical staff is working on that goal and hope to achieve it during 2007. Adobe Acrobat Reader software is required to access the publication. It is free and can be downloaded from the internet. The software allows printing as well as viewing The Messenger.

THE MESSENGER HISTORY

The church has published The Messenger, an eight-page bi-monthly magazine, since the late 1800's. When the publication began, the Cape Fear Conference published it under the name The Free Will Baptist Herald. The name was later changed to The Free Will Baptist Messenger with the sub-title: An Advocate of Bible Holiness. After the 1959 merger, the word Pentecostal was added to the name, causing it to be consistent with the name of the new denomination. It is today widely received as The Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Messenger.
